Filament test report
Filament selection
Changing the filament during a print should also not be a problem when the filament sensor is active. Flow adjustment is not necessary for most of the filaments tested.

Description: | The E-PLA filament from AddNorth has convinced across the board and is very likely one of the best PLA materials on the market. The material is easy to work with, shows no stringing and cleanly reproduces the contours of the model. With resealable packaging, it is worth recommending. AddNorth E-PLA is our printer calibration reference material. With a flow of 100%, the exact dimensions come out with only minor deviations. For all other materials, the flow may have been adjusted. |

Filament: | Adura™ (Nylon, Polyamid)
Colour: | All | ||
Part surface: | Shiny | ||
Description: |
AddNorth Adura is a nylon filament with the typical nylon properties such as high toughness and strength, good chemical resistance. In addition to the good properties, there are also some that cause problems such as warping, shrinkage and moisture absorption. Adura is more difficult to work with and therefore somewhat inconvenient for experienced users. The biggest problem is poor bed adhesion and warping. It works best with adhesion promoter or PEI printing bed. Adura adhere very well to the P-surface 141 printing surface without an additional adhesion promoter. The filament absorbs moisture very quickly. Make sure you store it properly or dry it before use, otherwise you will get strining etc. Due to the shrinkage, dimensionally stable parts are very difficult to achieve. |

Description: |
OBC Polyethylene is the most difficult material to print with PP and therefore only suitable for experts. Even with an adhesion promoter, the material does not stick to any of the usual surfaces. The P-surface 141 printing surface is required for printing, and you also need a 0.6mm nozzle, since the material is very soft, similar to TPU, and otherwise the material transport does not work reliably. |

Description: |
With regard to environmental protection, ALLPHA is definitely not the right first step, but the quality of the prints cannot yet keep up with the usual PLA materials. While there is absolutely no stringing and the fact that PHA absorbs almost no water has its advantages, the edges and dimensions are not that good. I think it's useful for figures or a quick print for a first draft. Here you don't have to worry about unnecessarily polluting the environment with a misprint. Because of the good world compatibility, there is an extra bonus in the rating. |

Part surface: | Shiny metallic
Description: | The material is very difficult to print. If the cooling is too much, the layers will not adhere. If there is too little cooling, the component deforms in e.g. the chimney of the Benchy. I didn't get any useful results with the original Weedo X40 component fan. Useful results can only be achieved with the X40 community cooling system. The material can only be used for demonstration objects. In the case of components with a load, it breaks. In addition, the bed adhesion is very poor. |

Although the material was only removed from the unopened, new vacuum packaging shortly before printing, the material shows clear stringing. The support structure in the inner area is only no longer visible from a wall thickness of 3 layers. Except for the stringing, the Benchy are printed without any major problems. If you expose the GlowEX material to a strong light source for a long time and then go into the dark, the material glows. The glow does not last very long, however. Set up the objects outside and see them glow at night, unfortunately, does not work because the object does not glow long enough! |

Description: | When you hear the name Easy PLA, you first think that it is easy to work with. The tests quickly showed that the 0.4mm nozzle clogged quickly and the material did not transport (tested with Weedo X40 and Creality Ender 3 Pro). If you use the 0.6mm or larger you can get great results with the material. Filament: | FiberSilk
Colour: | All | ||
Part surface: | Shiny metallic
Description: | The material swells as it cools. The lower the cooling capacity, the greater the swelling. An elephant's foot is therefore inevitable. The material requires a very good cooling capacity, so it is essential to use the X40 community cooling system. The shiny metallic surface can cause a change in the degree of gloss in some geometries. With small radii, for example on the back of the Benchy or the bow tip, rough surfaces can arise. The material is unsuitable for very small layers. The adhesion of the layers and the bed is very good. A flow below 100% is required for good surfaces, otherwise pimples will develop. |

Description: | The material can be printed at 260°C without warping. An adhesion promoter such as Dimafix is necessary so that the material adheres to the print bed of the Weedo X40. For small components you also need a raft, as the adhesion promoter is not sufficient. The material can be used to manufacture precise and stable components. Part surface: | The surface is completely matt
Description: | PP is extremely difficult to print. The material does not adhere to the overlying print bed. By using Magigoo for PP you get the material to adhere to the print bed. The second difficulty is the flexibility of the filament. The filament is similarly soft as TPU and blocks extremely quickly with a Bowden cable system. The great thing about the material is the extreme layer adhesion and toughness. The layer adhesion is so good that you cannot remove a support structure or a raft made from the same material. The layers are barely visible. The material can only be processed to a very limited extent with a Bowden cable system. There are therefore no print profiles for the Weedo X40.
